"Opening Doors"

November 2007

Over 200 people visited the fantastic ‘Opening Doors’ exhibition of Gateways and About Us work at Chertsey.

There was lots to do and see including:-

· The Coffee Shop, Camberley’s soup, scones and cake tastings were VERY popular!
· Colebrook Garden Centre helped people plant their own narcissi bulb for Christmas
· Office Services showed off their equipment skills
· Cranstock showed people just how great worms are with their mini-wormery

People enjoyed taking part in ‘Stars in their Eyes’ making their own pop video and many people gave their comments on the exhibition in our Big Brother diary room. The Big Brother voice (otherwise known as Simon) was fantastic!

In the workshops, people learnt about all sorts of things including getting jobs through Employability, Amanda’s life story and saw people receiving their ‘About Us’ certificates. Peter and his team also ran tai chi sessions – a special request from the Gateways meeting.

Andrew Webster judged the Gateways photo competition – winners were:-

· Steve from Colebrook with his fantastic photo of an ornamental cabbage
· Karen from Cranleigh with her great action photo of cricket
· Joanne Atter from Cranstock with her photo of Barry and Richard

Lots of people gave us feedback on the exhibition. Comments include:-

‘Gateways has grown tremendously – I didn’t realise how many people are part of the project’

‘I liked learning about cooking and eating the cakes’

‘We got new tips on what to do in the future and found it helpful to learn about Employability’
