OPPORTUNITIES
FOR WORK
The Government
wants more people with learning disabilities to have a job.
Valuing People tells Partnership Boards what plans must be put in place
to help this change to happen.
WHAT
HAS HAPPENED SO FAR IN SURREY
In Surrey
we started working on change a few years ago under
“Modernising Day Services” with the setting up of EmployAbility
and developing Work Schemes.
The Governments’
White Paper says that all Councils should have
an Employment Strategy. This sets out a list of tasks for us to
achieve working in partnership with a range of organisations,
listening to what people want and setting out timescales to work to.
Our first
Employment Strategy was set up in 2003 and had 6 tasks,
this has been expanded and updated and now has 12 tasks;
Lots
of work is being done around Surrey, to find out more click on "Who
